The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has admitted that the country is facing intermittent power outages.

According to him, although there are challenges, monies have been allocated to solve the problems.

Addressing Journalists during a tour at the ongoing Kasoa Bulk Supply Point (BSP) Project, he said "Indeed, yes, we are facing intermittent power outages and it is also indeed true monies and the financial resources are being provided to ensure that we tackle our [power] problems"

The Minister for Energy who doubles as the Member for Manhyia South also appealed to the general public to exercise patience and forbearance with the people working at the bulk supply point.

"We will just continue to ask for patience and forbearance for the people working here. Over 90% of the people are Ghanaians working hard, day in and night to ensure that the power system that has not been upgraded for a long time gets the needed investment to ensure a more reliable power system to the country"

Napo as he is affectionately called further said "If you live in any part of Accra or Central or Western or Ashanti Region, there is a reason for intermittent outages which reason for the past three weeks, we have been touring GRIDCo site to see what system improvement, they are bringing. We were in GRIDCo three weeks ago, we were in Pokuase, and today, we are in Kasoa. Such system improvement is ongoing in some parts of the country.

He asked the media for corporation, understanding, and information through their various portals to educate Ghanaians.

He also expressed satisfaction with the progress of work.

Thinknewsonline.com also gathered that the purpose of the 436-megawatt Kasoa BSP is to ensure that the power outages being experienced by residents of Kasoa, Nyanyano, Senya Beraku among others will become a thing of the past.

It is emerging that the Kasoa project which has seen 60% of its work done when completed will have over 300,000 consumers enjoy an uninterrupted power supply.

The bulk supply which commenced in 2019 will be completed in August 2021. Thinknewsonline.com also gathered that the Kasoa BSP is a 435 MWA capacity Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation and is the second-largest in the country.

The US$50 million BSP project, which is being funded by MiDA under the Ghana Power Compact programme when completed is expected to benefit 241, 508 ECG customers.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Jonathan Amoako-Baah said "There is a difference between the Pokuase and Kasoa supply station. Pokuase is Air Insulated Substation while Kasoa is a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation"

He explained that at Pokuase, there were 4 transformers but in Kasoa, there are only 3.

He said "We are working to ensure that the lower voltage being experienced by residents are worked on"
