"Vote for gov't that will uphold integrity of Public Service" – GLOGSAG

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana has called on Civil Servants to vote for a government that will uphold the integrity of the Service in the upcoming elections.

Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe-Addo said this when he addressed a news conference to mark this year’s May Day celebrations in  Accra.

Dr Bampoe-Addo recalled the importance of the Civil Service in promoting government business.

He was however saddened about the appointment of party apparatchiks into the Service which has undermined neutrality and permanence of the Civil Service.

“The people in the Civil Service should vote a government that will uphold integrity, anonymity and permanence in the Civil Service. We will also resist any attempt by any government to appoint political apparatchiks and goro boys into the Service,” he noted.

The Executive Secretary underscored a Supreme Court ruling in 2017 which says that the Civil Service should not be politicized and members should remain non-partisan.

“While it is their right, the open manifestation of their partisan affiliations will not augur well for the service,” he said.

To commemorate this year’s May Day celebrations, Dr Bampoe-Addo also called on Civil Servants to vote for a government that will uphold the integrity of the Service.

The theme for this year’s May celebration is “Election 2024- The role of workers and social partners in securing peaceful elections for national development.”

May Day 2024, also known as International Workers’ Day, will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 1st, this year. This day is dedicated to recognising the contributions and achievements of workers worldwide and promoting workers’ rights and opportunities.
