The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has cautioned the public against the use of middlemen, commonly known as 'goro boys', in the passport application process, stressing that the act is not only illegal but punishable under Ghanaian law.
“It is a criminal offense to use a ‘goro boy’ to apply for a passport,” the MP said firmly.
“There is a clearly laid-out official process for passport applications, and people must follow it through the right channels.”
Addressing Journalists in Accra on Thursday on recent frustrations expressed by applicants about delays and inefficiencies, Sam George acknowledged some of the concerns but urged citizens not to resort to unofficial means, especially as government continues to modernize its operations.
He noted that one of the key reforms currently underway is the full automation of the Office of Exchange, aimed at closing loopholes in customs processing and improving tracking systems.
These efforts, he added, are part of a broader strategy to transform Ghana into a clean, modern, and financially inclusive logistics and administrative hub.
“The purpose of these reforms is to ensure transparency, efficiency, and public trust in our systems. We are working toward a fully digitized, corruption-free service delivery framework,” he added.
The MP reiterated his commitment to supporting reforms that enhance public service delivery and urged Ghanaians to be patient and patriotic by rejecting illegal shortcuts in favor of lawful procedures.
