UPS Donates 16 Portable Ultra Cold Chain Freezers To Ministry Of Health To Help Store Covid-19 Drugs


The Leadership of United Parcel Service (UPS), one of the largest and most trusted global shipping & logistics companies worldwide has donated 16 portable ultra cold chain freezers to the Ministry of Health to help in the storage of covid-19 vaccines which requires very low temperatures.


According to the Manager of UPS Africa Special Project, Bassey Anari, the move forms part of the organization's social and corporate responsibilities of supporting people and entities with their widow's mite.




Addressing Journalists on Tuesday, Mr. Bassey Anari said "UPS has a tradition. The tradition is to give back to the people, where we operate our business. It is the people that need the business to work therefore we need to also give back to them, especially at this time where we are all going through this troubling covid-19"


He added that UPS will ensure that it takes care of the people to ensure that each individual is safe and well.




"It is an honor to give our widow's mite to the people of Ghana in respect of the pfizer"


He thanked the Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu the opportunity to support the country with 16 portable ultra cold chain freezers.




He added that his outfit will keep working with the Ministry and keep Ghanaians safe.


On his part, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Man said "I will want to extend the appreciation of the President and Government to UPS for your support. Throughout, the battle, we have not fought alone, we have had massive support from UPS"




He reminded the gathering of UPS' eminence support to the country when it received its first batch of Covid-19 vaccines to a place of storage.


He further lauded the Leadership of UPS adding that their gesture is once worth remembering




"This morning, UPS has given us 16 freezers that can store ultra-low vaccines at cool temperatures" he said.


The Minister also hinted that the 16 portable freezers will be shared equally among the regions adding that once the country receives the remaining vaccines, it can easily distribute them for cooler storage for its use.




He assured the Leadership of UPS that the freezers will be well utilized to serve it's intended purpose.


Manager of the Expanded Programme On Immunization, Dr. Kwame Amponsa-Achiano in an exclusive interview with Thinknewsonline.com noted that the freezers will help ease the work of health workers.




He was confident that the freezers will be well maintained and kept in good working condition.


Touching on the new Delta Variant, Dr. Amponsa-Achiano said "Whatever variant arises can cause problems and we should anticipate for more different variants coming in the future.




He reminded the public to stick to the protocols meted out by the Akufo-Addo Government and the Ministry of Health adding that if Ghanaians, abide by the rules, it can help stop the spread of the disease.


"So the take-home message is, we should be cautious. We should not rely on getting more variants before we adhere to the protocols. We need to be mindful irrespective of the variant" he concluded.
