“This Woman Cannot Brighten Your Political Fortunes, You Cannot Win" - Kennedy Agyapong To Mahama
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has descended heavily on the Presidential Candidate of the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama saying bringing on board a woman as his running mate will not brighten his political fortunes ahead of the upcoming December general elections.
According to him, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang who was recently selected as the running mate for the NDC party has nothing to offer adding that candidate, Mahama cannot even win the December 2020 polls.
Speaking on an Accra-based television, Mr. Agyapong said “So now when you come with a woman and you think the woman will brighten your political fortunes you are lying, you cannot win"
He added that Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang cannot even match the current Vice President, Dr. Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party on any day stressing that she can only be compared to Ghana's Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
"We are not comparing Jane Naana to Bawumia, we are comparing her to NAPO. So you have to look at what NAPO has done as Education Minister then you assess what she did as Education Minister then you can tell if she will be a competent Vice President to help Mahama” he noted.
The MP for Assin Central who also doubles as a Business Mogul also mentioned that aside President Akufo-Addo's administration, none of the past Veeps were given the opportunity to showcase their capabilities adding that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is not different from them.
“You cannot compare the woman to the Vice President because he’s the sitting Vice President who has done so well. If you look at the history of Ghana and all the old Presidents we have had, it’s only President Akufo-Addo who has given the Vice President chance to shine and you know Dr. Bawumia is intelligent so he has shined” he said.
Professor Jane Opoku Agyemang, running mate of John Dramani Mahama for the 2020 general election has come under heavy backlash and criticisms from the government of the day. Personalities such as; Ghana's Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP, Chairman Wontumi among others have been scolded the past Vice Chancellor of University of Cape Coast saying she is incompetent and has nothing to offer the NDC.
