Tension Mounts In Ayawaso North Constituency Over Renomination Of Incumbent MCE

The 2020/21 decision made by members of the vetting committee of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) to recommend the renomination of Aminu Mohammed Zakari as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has generated tension and serious confusion in the Municipality.

Majority of the Constituency Executives (15 out of 16 Constituency Executives) electoral area coordinators have signed a petition to both Regional and National Vetting committee of the MMDCEs and copied the National and Regional Party.

President Akufo-Addo, Veep Bawumia, Chief of Staff and Minister of Local Government have all been copied against the renomination of Aminu Mohammed Zakari as MCE for the good people of Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly.

Majority of the youth groups including supporters of the New Patriotic Party in Ayawaso North, Religious Based Leaders, Some Traditional Groups, Market Women, and Assembly Members say they are not happy with committee’s recommendation of the renomination of incumbent.

The report in possession of media outlets mentioned that, the members of the committee recommended Aminu Mohammed Zakari base on the fact that he was PC in 2016 general elections, also the National Press Secretary of Nasara.

The report pointed out that Aminu Zakari holds MBA from the University in Ghana and BSc in Administrations.

It is emerging that the renomination of the incumbent MCE will not help the course of peace and development as well as the the progress of the party in Ayawaso North constituency as we witnessed in 2020 General Elections.

Many say Hon. Aminu Zakari's attitude towards the party leadership and most of the people in the Ayawaso North Constituency has created serious division and unnecessary tension.

His conduct has led to series of demonstrations by disgruntled members that has created serious apathy in the constituency.

In quick responds, the constituency executives under leadership of the Chairman Alhai Mahmud Hussein, the Chairman of the Council of Elders and the Patron of the Constituency are calling on President Akufo-Addo to ignore the recommendation of the committee and listen to the humble request of the constituents.

Some checks reveals the constituents are calling for the nomination of Alhaji Manaf Mohammed Osmanu Alidu.

Alhaji Alidu is said to be the immediate past Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency in the 2020 General election.

It is also emerging that Alhaji Manaf's nomination as MCE will help change the affairs of the people of Ayawaso North Municipality.
