SPORTS: Okwahu United promoted

Nkawkaw-based cub, Okwahu United have returned to Ghana’s Division One League after winning the Eastern Region Division Two Middle League.

The Asaase Aban team earned promotion with a 3-1 win over Blue Skies Pelicans in their final game on Wednesday.

Despite having one game left to play, Okwahu United’s dominance throughout the middle league campaign saw them establish an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

They currently have a five-point lead over second-placed Live Now Academy, who lost 2-1 to Right To Dream Academy.

Okwahu United’s promotion is a significant achievement after a six-year absence from Ghana’s second-tier league. Following their relegation to the third tier in 2017, the club worked tirelessly to reclaim their former position and will now focus on Ghana Premier League promotion. Okwahu United reached the FA Cup final in 2017, but were narrowly defeated by Bechem United.

Okwahu United, founded in the 1980s as one of Ghana’s football powerhouses, has a storied history and has represented the country in various continental competitions.

They take pride in nurturing and producing numerous talented players who have made significant contributions to Ghana’s football legacy. Mohammed Gargo, Tony Yeboah, Fatau Dauda, and former Black Stars captain and coach Charles Akonnor are among their notable alumni who have made a name for themselves both domestically and internationally.
