The Ga Mantse, Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse Il is calling on government to rescind its decision by immediately withdrawing E.I. 144 to protect the ecological integrity of the capital's (Achimota) forest.
According to the Ga Mantse, the Achimota Forest Reserve is the only major existing greenbelt left for Accra and its environs, adding that such a decision will affect the ecological integrity of the Forest and its protection of the water bodies and its natural environment.
In a release signed by Ga Dzasetse, Nii Yaote Oto Ga II, it he said "The Achimota Forest Reserve is the only major existing greenbelt left for Accra and its environs, and such a decision will affect the ecological integrity of the Forest and its protection of the water bodies and its natural environment"
"We therefore, call on His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to rescind the decision by immediately withdrawing E.1 144 to protect the ecological integrity of the capital's forest"
The Ga Mantse also expressed his utmost shock and surprise at the decision by Government to declassify the 361.50 acres Achimota Forest Reserves from being a forest reserve through the passing of Executive Instrument 144 by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Samuel Abdulai Jinapor.
He further expressed his displeasure at the decision to mortgage the country’s mineral resources meant for the development of the people to foreigners for a meagre sum for years, instead of considering and advancing what is in the best interest of the Nation.
Nii Ga and the Dzase says they hopes the government will rescind its decision in the best interest of the citizens, thereby preserving and protecting the benefits of the remainder of the country's natural resources for generations yet unborn.
