Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has underscored the importance of protecting Ghanaian cultural values.
He made these remarks in the context of a bill currently under scrutiny by the Supreme Court.
Responding to questions about his stance on the bill, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the preservation of the nation's cultural heritage is paramount.
Addressing concerns about the bill's consistency with the Constitution at the Bawumia hosts the Media in Accra on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia stated, "The bill is before the Supreme Court right now. There have been challenges raised regarding its alignment with the Constitution"
"However, we must wait for the Court's decision. Once the Supreme Court declares the bill constitutional, signing it into law will be automatic. There shouldn't be any issue—no ifs, ands, or buts."
Dr. Bawumia's remarks reflect the government's commitment to ensuring that any legislation enacted is in full compliance with constitutional principles while safeguarding the cultural values that define the nation.
