POLITICS: John Mahama Suspends Campaign In Bono Region (Picture)


The Presidential Candidate for the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has suspended his four day tour of the Bono Region to return to Accra.


According to a communique from his campaign team, the Flagbearer is returning to Accra to deal with issues emanating from some inconsistencies in the voter's register.


It will be recalled that Mr. Mahama expressed some misgivings with some anomalies detected during the ongoing voter's exhibition exercise.


Although he noted that the voter's identification card was the most important element in the upcoming election, he also described the anomalies detected as a hindrance to a free and fair elections in December.


"A voter register is the most important document in any election if the voter register is not credible or is full of errors;it makes it difficult to have free,fair and transparent elections" he said.


The former president noted that the chaotic and disorderly nature of the electoral process has the potential to create a crisis situation in the country in the lead up to the December vote,and demanded the the Electoral body be held accountable.



Mr. Mahama said "That is why at a point I said the EC should be prepared to take the blame if this country descends into chaos".


The Former president called on International Election observers to take an interest in the current state of affairs in Ghana as far as the December elections are concerned and supervise the electoral process.


He however apologized to the constituency but assured the inhabitants of his return after the issue is addressed.



John Mahama stated that the party will make a statement on the matter in due course.
