The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG) has donated medical supplies and essential medicines valued at GH¢2.2 million in support of the MahamaCares initiative — a flagship healthcare intervention launched under President John Dramani Mahama.
The donation, made on Friday, was presented through the Ministry of Health and led by the Executive Chairman of Tobinco Group of Companies Elder Nana Amo Tobbin I.

Speaking at the ceremony, Elder Tobbin commended the MahamaCares programme for its timely intervention in bridging critical healthcare gaps across the country.
He noted that the association believes the initiative reflects a deep commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare for all Ghanaians.

“In recognition of the noble efforts being made through MahamaCares, we, as stakeholders in Ghana’s health sector, found it imperative to support this initiative with life-saving medical supplies,” Elder Tobbin stated.
The donated items include a wide range of essential medicines such as pain relief drugs, blood tonics, anti-malaria treatments, cardiovascular and anti-diabetic drugs, as well as medications for asthma management and other chronic conditions.

Receiving the items on behalf of government, the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, expressed profound gratitude to the Association for its generosity.
He described the gesture as a critical boost to the MahamaCares initiative, which seeks to improve public health service delivery, particularly in underserved communities.

“This donation could not have come at a better time. It will significantly enhance our ability to provide quality healthcare to our citizens, especially in remote and vulnerable areas. I want to assure you that every single item will be used strictly for its intended purpose,” the Minister affirmed.
The Health Minister also acknowledged the role of local pharmaceutical manufacturers in strengthening Ghana’s health system, especially in the wake of growing calls for self-reliance in drug production.

The event highlights an increasing trend of public-private collaboration in health sector development, and further cements PMAG’s role as a key partner in Ghana’s quest for universal healthcare access.
The MahamaCares initiative, launched under the broader national health and social protection framework, aims to expand access to medicines, improve infrastructure, and boost human resources across Ghana’s health facilities.
