Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has formally requested to engage with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) virtually, citing a sudden deterioration in his health that has made physical appearance impossible.
Sources close to the former Minister confirmed that his legal team has submitted medical reports to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court, outlining his condition and pending surgical procedures.
This follows his failure to honour a scheduled appointment with the OSP on Monday, June 2, 2025.
The former Minister, who is currently battling the OSP’s attempt to declare him wanted, has proposed that the investigation proceed remotely under provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act.
This arrangement, if accepted, would allow the OSP to take his Cautioned Statement while he continues medical treatment.
The OSP, which had earlier hinted at the possibility of re-declaring Mr Ofori-Atta wanted if he failed to appear, has not issued any new official communication on the matter.
However, tension continues to mount over how the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, will respond to the latest development.
The Human Rights Court is expected to deliver a ruling on June 18, 2025, on a motion filed by Mr Ofori-Atta to restrain the OSP from declaring him wanted.
He is also seeking an order for the removal of such declarations from the OSP’s social media platforms.
In a post on May 28 via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the OSP confirmed the case had been adjourned to June 18 for ruling.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the OSP will grant the request for a virtual meeting or pursue other legal options.
