As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) commemorates its 32nd anniversary, former Energy Minister and prominent party figure Boakye Agyarko has called for a revival of the fervor that propelled the party to power.

In a statement released on Sunday, July 28, Agyarko emphasized the need for the NPP to "arouse its flagging spirit and ready itself for battle" as it approaches the pivotal 2024 elections.

Reflecting on the party's journey, Agyarko highlighted the dual nature of the anniversary—a time for celebration and introspection.

"While we celebrate our achievements, we must also examine the difficulties and dangers before us," he remarked.

According to Agyarko, the NPP stands at a critical juncture in its political journey, with signs of wear and fatigue that demand immediate attention.

"32 years of struggle has brought us to an unprecedented political crossroads and we can hear the sputtering of the NPP engine. It is calling for our attention,” Mr. Agyarko warned.

He cautioned against the risk of the party becoming "deflected into all sorts of side issues" if it does not regularly reassess its core objectives.

The urgency of the forthcoming elections, Agyarko noted, necessitates a rekindling of the party's foundational zeal.

"The urgency of now" demands that the NPP "rekindles the fire in its belly," he asserted, urging the leadership to steer the party with renewed vigor.

Quoting the poet W.B. Yeats, Agyarko appealed to the party’s leaders, saying, "We being poor, have only our dreams; we have spread our dreams under your feet; tread softly because you tread on our dreams."

This poignant citation underscores the delicate balance the leadership must maintain as they navigate the party through this crucial period.

As the NPP prepares for the 2024 elections, Agyarko’s message is clear: the party must draw from its rich history of struggle and success, reigniting the passion that has been its hallmark, to ensure it remains a formidable force in Ghana’s political landscape.
