Kwesi Botchway Jnr, a member of the NPP National Communication Team, has criticized the NDC's approach to the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, describing it as non-existent and deceptive.
He expressed his concerns while speaking on Think Tv's political talk show, SE NO PEI, emphasizing that the NDC's proposed 24-hour economy is nothing more than a populist gimmick with no real plan to tackle the country's pressing issues.
"The NDC's 24-hour economy proposal is merely an avenue for them to exploit the nation further. They are using this as a ploy to rob Ghanaians, just like they have done in the past,"
Mr. Botchway Jnr remarked, pointing to recent scandals involving members of the NDC.
"Sednam Tamakloe, an NDC member, was convicted for stealing GH₵93 million and is currently serving a 10-year sentence. This same individual is now reportedly sponsoring NDC billboards across the country."
Mr. Botchway Jnr further argued that the NDC's manifesto lacks any concrete measures to combat illegal mining.
He accused the party of planning to release individuals who have been arrested in the ongoing fight against galamsey, undermining efforts to protect the environment and the nation's mineral resources.
"In contrast, the NPP has introduced effective measures to address the galamsey menace. Under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, who has put his presidency on the line to fight this issue, we have seen significant improvements"
"The Minerals and Mining Act has been implemented, and initiatives like the National Land Reclamation Programme (NALEP) are already making strides in restoring our lands."
Botchway Jnr emphasized that the NPP is committed to ensuring that mining is conducted legally and sustainably, with licenses made more affordable under a potential Bawumia administration.
"Dr. Bawumia is focused on preventing illegal mining and ensuring that the right practices are followed. We are the party to trust when it comes to protecting our mineral resources and fighting galamsey."
He urged Ghanaians to look beyond the NDC's empty promises and support the NPP's proven track record in combating illegal mining and safeguarding the nation's future.
