The National Elections Task Force has met with representatives of various political parties to outline security arrangements for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The meeting, held at the National Police Headquarters Cafeteria Conference Centre in Cantonments on Thursday, aimed to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election process.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Elections Task Force, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare emphasized the importance of collective efforts in maintaining peace throughout the election period.
He urged political party representatives to accept the outcomes of the polls and avoid actions that could incite violence.
The IGP assured attendees that strict measures had been instituted to prevent and address any form of electoral violence at polling stations.
He also called on political leaders to refrain from hate speech, highlighting its potential to disrupt national unity.
"Out of the 12 or 13 presidential candidates, only one person will win, and the rest will lose. Similarly, only 275 parliamentary candidates will emerge as winners," IGP stated.
"Fairness and transparency would ensure that Ghana remains the ultimate victor in the democratic process"
Representatives from the political parties expressed their commitment to cooperating with the police to ensure peaceful elections.
They pledged to report individuals or groups engaging in activities aimed at undermining the integrity of the elections.
The meeting reflects the Ghana Police Service's proactive approach to safeguarding the nation's democracy as preparations for the 2024 elections intensify.
