MMDCEs: Massive Shake-Up Hits A.M.A As Akufo-Addo Drops Adjei Sowah For Elizabeth Sackey

A massive shake-up has hit the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A) following the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) by President Akufo-Addo.

The much-talked-about appointment of MMDCEs was announced by the Minister for Local Government, Dan Botwe at a press briefing in Accra on Sunday.

In his announcement, it emerged that President Akufo-Addo had dropped Mohammed Adjei Sowah from the position of Mayor of Accra and replaced him with Madam Elizabeth Sackey.

The announcement has left many in shock and wondering what informed President Akufo-Addo to have such a shake-up.

Although the criteria for selection are unknown, President Akufo-Addo is confident that his new appointees will live up to expectations.

A few days ago, news broke that some youth belonging to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Odododiodio Constituency had staged a demonstration following a tip-off that President Akufo-Addo had replaced Mohammed Adjei Sowah as Mayor of Accra.

The office of Former Mayor, Mohammed Adjei Sowah later that day issued a statement denouncing the act.

He charged the youth to channel their energy into supporting the new appointee.

In his statement, he said "We should recognize the President’s authority to nominate individuals of his choice to promote his agenda, and it’s our duty to support the appointees to succeed… I totally support all the President’s nominations and commit to continue to work towards the development of the country,”

Profile of Madam Elizabeth Sackey

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's new nominee has once served as has the former Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister.

Plying her trade as a banker at the Ghana Commercial, Madam Sackey held the position of Chief Clerk.

Born a Ga, Madam Elizabeth Sackey is said to hail from Asere in the Greater Accra Region.

In 2003, the new Mayor of Accra obtained a Certificate in Marketing as an Economist

She has also held the position of a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the good people for Okaikwei North Constituency.

The new Mayor of Accra is believed to be a member of the Church of Pentecost.

Out of a beautiful marriage, Madam Sackey has been blessed with four children.
