A wave of protests is set to sweep through the Greater Accra Region today as the Coalition of La Associations and the GaDangme Coalition Against Land Injustice launch a series of demonstrations against what they describe as the unethical seizure of lands by political entities.

The protests, beginning on Tuesday, July 30, will spotlight several contentious land issues, with a particular focus on the Trade Fair land, which includes the prime areas occupied by Labadi Beach and La Palm Royal Beach Hotels.

The coalition alleges that the original landowners have not received the legally required compensation, branding the seizures as acts of injustice.

Adding to the tension is the situation involving the Prisons Service lands at Cantonments.

Here, a private developer's plans to redevelop the facilities and use part of the land for private business have sparked outrage among the local community.

The coalition views this as a blatant disregard for the rights and heritage of the indigenous people.

In a significant development, the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament is scheduled to visit the Ghana Prisons Service Barracks at Cantonments and the Ghana Prisons Service land at Roman Ridge in Accra today.

This visit aims to address the escalating concerns raised by the youth groups and provide a platform for dialogue.

The coalition's spokesperson emphasized the gravity of the situation:

"Our lands have been looted and our heritage disrespected. We will not stand by as political entities rob us of our rightful properties without fair compensation."

As the demonstrations kick off, the eyes of the nation are on Accra. The outcome of these protests and the parliamentary committee's visit could set a precedent for land rights and justice in the region, marking a pivotal moment in the fight against land injustices in Ghana.
