In a solemn ceremony, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, officially administered the oath of office to Mr. Kwabena Boateng, marking his commencement as the new Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region.

The swearing-in took place on May 17, 2024, following Mr. Boateng’s decisive victory in a recent by-election.

Mr. Boateng triumphed with 27,782 votes, securing 55.8% of the total ballots cast.

His main opponent, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who ran as an independent candidate, garnered 21,534 votes, representing 43.3% of the vote share.

The by-election was necessitated by the untimely passing of the former MP, Mr. John Kumah, whose commitment and service to the Ejisu constituency had been deeply valued by his constituents.

During the swearing-in, Speaker Bagbin extended his congratulations to Mr. Boateng, welcoming him to the legislative body with an encouraging message.

“He is now Honourable Kwabena Boateng,” the Speaker announced to the assembly, signifying Mr. Boateng's official status as a parliamentarian. Bagbin further added, “Honourable member, you are welcome to the house, and I will give you your tools which you have to hold jealously tight,” emphasizing the importance of the responsibilities and duties that come with the office.

Mr. Boateng’s induction into Parliament not only fills the vacancy left by his predecessor but also injects fresh energy and perspective into the legislative process.

His victory in the by-election is seen as a reflection of the trust and confidence the people of Ejisu have placed in his leadership.

The transition also highlights the democratic processes in place, ensuring that the representation of the people continues seamlessly even in the wake of unforeseen events such as the death of a serving MP.

Late John Kumah's legacy will undoubtedly be remembered, and it is now up to Mr. Boateng to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor.

As Mr. Boateng takes on his new role, his constituents and colleagues in Parliament will be looking forward to his contributions and initiatives aimed at furthering the development and welfare of the Ejisu constituency.
