KUMASI-TECHIMAN HIGHWAY: Armed Robbers Shoot Two Passengers


Information reaching ThinkNews Online indicates two passengers have sustained gun shots after a bus travelling on the Kumasi-Techiman Highway was ambushed by armed robbers.


According to sources, the unfortunate incident happened at Ahenkro, near Offinso, in the Ashanti Region, at about 12:20am.



It is emerging, the five suspected armed robbers were carrying AK47 rifles, ambushed and robbed passengers on board the bus having 14 passengers on board.


Sources say, one of the passenger got shot in the stomach while another suffered bullet wounds in the leg.



ThinkNews Online has gathered the two are responding to treatment at the Offinso Government Hospital.


Abdul Kwaku Razak, driver of vehicle with registration number, AS 4904-17 said "The sad incident occurred around 12:20am on Sunday at Aminu Nkwanta, near Techiman Dadieso"



He added the five robbers took control of the road with two at each side leaving one in the middle.


Razak said "In spite of the indiscriminate warning shots, "I refused to stop the vehicle and increased the acceleration, which forced the one in the middle of the road to jump into the nearby bush. A passenger sitting behind my seat was hit by a bullet in the stomach and another person in the leg".



The driver said he sped off straight to the Offinso Ahenkro Police Station and made a formal complaint about the incident.


According to Razak, he was warned by a colleague driver about the presence of robbers at the area, but he was later given assurance by the police at checkpoints ahead that the road was safe and so he could continue the journey.



However, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, says his men are yet to commence investigation.
