Seven firefighters from the Kade Fire Station in the Eastern Region of Ghana were injured in a tragic accident on Sunday while responding to an emergency call.
The incident occurred around 9:08 am at Otwenkwanta near Kade, leaving the firefighters with serious injuries, including neck, spinal, and head traumas.
The accident, which involved Fire Tender truck FS 438, drew a large crowd who assisted in rescuing the injured personnel.
Assistant Chief Officer Grade One (ACFO I) Timothy Osafo-Affum, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), shared the details with the Ghanaian Times.
According to ACFO Osafo-Affum, the truck skidded on a sharp curve, hit a heap of sand, and overturned, resulting in the injuries of seven out of the eight crew members on board.
The injured firefighters were initially rushed to Saint Dominic’s Hospital, where two have since been treated and discharged.
However, two remain in critical condition at the Kade Government Hospital, including the driver and the officer in charge. One firefighter miraculously escaped unscathed.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
