JUST IN: Ghana Health Service revokes award given to Okobeng Mining Company over illegal mining

The Western Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) says it has revoked an award given to Okobeng Mining Company Limited Award over illegal mining practices which is negatively affecting public health.


According to the Ghana Health Service, it took such action following numerous complaints with copious evidence.


In a release signed by the Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Yaw Ofori Yeboah, he said "However following the award presented to you on 28/03/2023, we have received numerous complaints with copious evidence against you and the operations of your company, Okobeng Mining Company Limited"


This, he added, includes environmental degradation which has significant implications for health.
