Japan has reiterated its commitment to supporting Africa’s growth, resilience, and sustainable development as preparations intensify for the upcoming TICAD9 Summit, set to take place in Yokohama in August 2025.
This assurance was given during a media engagement organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Accra.
Officials outlined Japan’s ongoing efforts to deepen partnerships with Africa in key areas such as health, education, peacebuilding, climate action, and infrastructure.
JICA officials emphasized the importance of African perspectives and media participation in shaping the outcomes of the summit, encouraging journalists to highlight development stories that align with the continent’s priorities.
TICAD9 aims to build on Japan’s longstanding relationship with Africa, focusing on inclusive, people-centered development.
“Japan is not just a donor; we are partners,” a JICA official stated, referencing the many successes achieved through previous TICAD engagements.
The summit will provide a platform for African and Japanese leaders to address shared challenges and explore opportunities, reaffirming Japan’s role as a dependable partner in Africa’s development.
