"Intruder Attacked And Killed By Lion At Accra Zoo" - Forestry Commission Confirms

The Forestry Commission (FC) has confirmed that one of the lions at the Accra Zoo has attacked and killed a man believed to be an intruder.


According to the Forestry Commission, the deceased is believed to be in his mid 30's.


In a statement sighted by Thinknewsonline.com and signed by the Forestry Commission, it said "Around 12:00 hours today, 28th August, 2022, officials of the Accra Zoo on a routine patrol noticed a middle aged man (an intruder) had jumped the security fences and entered the lions enclosure of the Zoo"


The Forestry Commission also added that the motive of the deceased intruder is yet to be determined.


"The intruder was attacked and injured by one of the lions, within the inner fencing of the enclosure. The intruder has been confirmed dead from the injuries sustained and the body has been conveyed to the morgue"


The statement further revealed that the Accra Zoo authorities successfully coaxed the lions into a secure hold before inviting the Achimota Police to convey the body and commence investigation.


It added that the lion, lioness and the two cubs are safe in their enclosure at the Accra Zoo.


Thinknewsonline.com has gathered that Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu-Bio rushed to the scene upon hearing the unfortunate incident.


After receiving a briefing on the unfortunate incident, the Deputy Minister sent a message of condolence to the family of the deceased and also cautioned the public to desist from intruding the enclosure of the lion, lioness and the two cubs.
