IGP deploys special team to investigate death of two women at Tamale Hotel

The Northern Regional Police Command has launched investigations into the death of two women whose bodies were discovered in a room at Cab Hospitality Hotel in the Gbewa Residential Area of Tamale.

In a statement signed by Mr. Wisdom Lavoe (DCOP), Northern Regional Commander, the Police said the incident occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, after the hotel management alerted officers to the presence of the bodies.

According to the statement, Police officers who responded to the report found the bodies of the two women, who are believed to be nationals of Benin.

The bodies have since been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Mr. Lavoe said preliminary investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths, confirm the identities of the deceased, and liaise with the appropriate authorities to facilitate contact with their families.

He further disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed a special team comprising investigators, intelligence officers, and crime scene experts from the National Police Headquarters to support the Northern Regional Police Command in the ongoing investigations.

The Northern Regional Commander appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist the investigation to contact the Police through the emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or report to the nearest Police Station.

Police say investigations remain ongoing.
