“I’m no longer a member of GoldBod board” — BoG Governor clarifies

Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama has clarified that he is no longer a member of the Board of the Ghana Gold Board, popularly known as GoldBod.

Responding to questions about whether he would resign from the GoldBod Board, Dr. Asiama said he resigned from the board approximately five months ago and no longer attends its meetings.

“I’m no longer a member of the Gold Board board. I do not sit on the board of the Gold Board,” the Governor said.

He explained, however, that the law governing GoldBod requires the Bank of Ghana to be represented on the board, either by the Governor or another Bank official of at least director rank.

According to Dr. Asiama, the legal provision does not require the Governor personally to serve on the GoldBod Board.

“There’s a legal requirement for the Bank of Ghana to be represented, either by the Governor or any other official up to the rank of a director. It does not necessarily need the Governor to be there,” he clarified.

The Governor said the Bank of Ghana continues to meet its statutory obligation through the appropriate representation, despite his resignation from the board.

His comments were intended to settle questions surrounding his role in GoldBod and whether he remains involved in the board’s decision-making processes.

Dr. Asiama stressed that, as of now, he does not participate in GoldBod board meetings.
