HIV Scare Hits Ashongman Kwabenya As Disease Is Said To Be Spreading Like Wild Bush Fire

There is massive fear and concern among residents of Ashongman Estate in the Kwabenya Municipality of Ga East in Accra over the spread of HIV AIDS among residents especially among young men and women. Some of the young men and women who spoke to MyNewsGh.com under strict condition of anonymity say the disease is spreading like unhindered bush fire among the young folks of the area some of whom have reported to health facilities and taking medications for it. Majority of them are however said to have gone to be tested and are positive but are not taking any medication and are probably spreading it through promiscuous activities at pubs and restaurants and clubs in and around Ashongman, Kwabenya, Pokuase and Dome areaa. The Ashongman area has become a notorious vicinity for internet and spiritual fraudsters popularly known as Sakawa boys while various locations such as the Musuku round about have become hotspots for prostitutes at night, residents familiar with the development told MyNewsGh.com.

While no linkage has been established between LGBTQI and news of the HIV spread in the areas, this news is coming only a few months after a four-bedroom house located at Jasmine Street at Ashongman Estate was found to be used as a centre to promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) in Accra. It contained a front desk, a conference room and some office equipment, such as photocopiers, cabinets, a projector and a flip chart to support LGBTQI. The Kwabenya traditional council moved to close down the office as the landlord ejected the tenants with police intervention.
