The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education, has announced an increase in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance for teachers in pre-tertiary schools nationwide.
According to Kwasi Kwarteng, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, professional teachers will now receive an annual CPD allowance of GH¢2,400, up from GH¢1,200.
Non-professional teachers will also see their allowance increased to GH¢1,200, up from the previous GH¢800.
Payments for these revised amounts have already commenced.
"This increase reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring teachers have the necessary support to pursue continuous professional development and improve their skills," Mr. Kwarteng said.
"We believe this will enable teachers to keep up with modern educational standards and deliver quality education."
The CPD allowance, introduced in 2020, is part of the government's initiative to boost the professional growth of teachers and enhance the quality of education across the country.
It provides financial support for both professional and non-professional teachers to engage in training, learn new teaching methodologies, and upgrade their skills to meet the evolving demands of the education sector.
