GOLD FIELDS WEST AFRICA Donates $300,000USD To Black Stars Ahead of Qatar 2022 World Cup (VIDEOS)

Gold Fields West Africa has donated an amount of $300,000USD as support package to the Senior National Team, Black Stars as ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2022 scheduled for Qatar.


According to Gold Fields West Africa, although its support for the Black Stars is not new, it believes it will boost the confidence of the players to do well for the nation.


Speaking at a brief ceremony held in Accra on Thursday, Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, Joshua Mortoti said "We are here to present a cheque for Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000USD) to support the Black Stars at the World Cup in Qatar"


He added that Gold Fields Ghana has an enviable reputation for its commitment to creating value for all stakeholders.


Explaining further, he noted that it includes shareholders, government, host communities and employees.


"Gold Fields' support for the Black Stars is not new. We have sponsored the Senior National Football Team over an eight-year period with a total of $15,000,000USD. That is from 2005 to 2012. We believe this sponsorship led the Black Stars to their first World Cup appearance in 2006"


"We believe that sports is a tool for unity, development and growth. This is why we have constructed a 10,400-seat stadium at Tarkwa. This world-class stadium is almost completed and is being funded by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation to the tune of $16.2,000,000USD"


Mr. Mortoti revealed that the foundation was established in 2004 and has so far invested $90.2,000,000USD in development programmes and shared-value projects in the host communities of its Tarkwa and Damang mines in the Western Region.


The Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, Joshua Mortoti on behalf of the company wished Black Stars the best of luck in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.


On his part, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif hinted that the support from Gold Fields West Africa is timely and will help boost the confidence of the Senior National Team, Black Stars as it prepares to represent Ghana at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.


He was optimistic that the Senior National Team will surprise nit only Ghanaians but the world as it prepares to partake in the tournament.


He also thanked Gold Fields West Africa for its kind gesture.


Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker called on other mining firms to come together by throwing their support to the Senior National Team, Black Stars as they prepare for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.


The Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP who doubles as a member of the Fund-raising committee of the Black Stars also thank Gold Fields West Africa for constructing tye ultramodern 10,400-seat stadium for his constituents.


He assured that the stadium will be used for its intended purposes.


Taking his turn, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku showered praises on the leadership and management of Gold Fields West Africa for their kind gesture towards the Senior National Team, Black Stars ahead of the Qatar World Cup 2022.


He assured that the Black Stars will do their very best and raise high the flag of Ghana at the tournament.
