Ghana is set to host the maiden edition of the Ghana Health & Labour Summit, a groundbreaking national event aimed at confronting the alarming rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through workplace-driven interventions.
Scheduled for October 9, 2025, at the University of Ghana, Accra, the summit brings together key stakeholders across sectors — including government agencies, employers, employees, HR leaders, and health professionals — to collectively chart a sustainable path forward in addressing Ghana’s escalating NCD crisis.
According to recent national health data, 43 to 45 percent of all deaths in Ghana are now linked to non-communicable diseases, such as cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory illnesses.
Shockingly, almost 1 in 2 deaths in the country is attributed to these preventable conditions, many of which are closely tied to workplace-related stressors and unhealthy environments.
Under the theme, “Mobilising Against NCDs: The Role of Workplaces in Safeguarding Employee Wellbeing,” the summit will explore how Ghana’s labour force can become a critical force in reversing these deadly trends.
Organised by MentaPulse Africa and its partners, the event will feature policy discussions, research presentations, and action plans tailored to workplace health strategies.
“This summit isn’t just timely — it’s urgent,” said a spokesperson for MentaPulse Africa. “The workplace has become a key battleground in the fight against NCDs, and it’s time for employers and institutions to step up.”
The Ghana Health & Labour Summit is expected to produce actionable recommendations for corporate health policies, national workplace wellness frameworks, and collaborative public-private initiatives aimed at protecting the health of Ghana’s workforce.
Attendance is open to the public, especially to those in human resources, occupational health, policy development, and corporate leadership.
