"Ghana’s food inflation drops to 2.8% in October" – Government Statistician

Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, has announced a significant decline in food inflation, which eased to 2.8 per cent in October 2026, from 4 per cent in September and 9.5 per cent in October 2025.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to announce the latest Consumer Price Index figures, Dr Iddrisu said the decline indicates a moderation in food price increases.
He explained that, on a month-on-month basis, food prices fell by 2 per cent between September and October, contributing to an overall 0.1 per cent reduction in prices during the period.
The development comes despite an increase in Ghana’s headline inflation rate to 5.5 per cent in October, up from 5.2 per cent in September, marking the third consecutive monthly increase since July.
Dr Iddrisu attributed the rise in overall inflation largely to non-food items, particularly services, which accounted for approximately 76 per cent of the inflation rate, while food contributed 24 per cent.
Services inflation increased sharply to 11.5 per cent in October, from 8.3 per cent in September, while goods inflation declined from 4.2 per cent to 3.8 per cent.
The Government Statistician noted that although food inflation had eased, rising prices in the services sector continued to exert pressure on the overall inflation rate.
