Ghana Police Service pledges support for Minority Caucus’ planned protest against Bank of Ghana governors

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has assured the minority caucus in Parliament of its full cooperation and commitment to maintaining law and order during the caucus' planned public demonstration against the Governors of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

In an official statement acknowledging the receipt of the caucus' letter regarding the protest, dated July 17, 2024, the police confirmed the protest date as July 30, 2024.

The GPS detailed the approved route for the demonstration:

"The route of your protest shall be from Obra Spot-Adabraka Farisco-Ridge Roundabout National Theatre Traffic Light-High Court Complex, then branch to Atta Mills Highway and terminate at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum."

The police also noted that the minority caucus would select 10 protestors to present their petition to the authorities.

Additionally, the organizers were instructed to implement measures to prevent any breaches of peace and ensure that participants conduct themselves peacefully throughout the event.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its dedication to upholding public order, stating, "The GPS reaffirms its continuous cooperation and commitment to maintain law and order for the intended public protest within the mandate of the Ghana Police Service."

This assurance from the GPS aims to facilitate a peaceful and orderly protest, reflecting the democratic values and rights of citizens to express their grievances while ensuring public safety.
