GFA suspends Ghana Premier League matches following Nsoatreman violence

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely suspended all Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches following violent clashes during the match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko on Matchday 19.


The incident, which occurred in Nsoatre over the weekend, resulted in the tragic death of a Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.


In a statement, the GFA announced the postponement of Matchday 20 fixtures, stating that the decision aims to create space for dialogue with key stakeholders.


“This move is aimed at creating space for the GFA to engage with relevant stakeholders and discuss the ramifications of the violence,” the statement read.


The association further emphasized its commitment to ensuring safety at match venues.


“The GFA has been working to improve the overall football experience in Ghana and is keen to ensure that this incident is dealt with swiftly and decisively to send the signal that such acts have no place in Ghana football.”
