The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has pledged the full support of the Ga Traditional Council to the new Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, in his quest to rid the city of filth and restore sanity.

The King gave the assurance when the Mayor paid a courtesy call on him at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra on Wednesday to officially introduce himself and seek the blessing and guidance of the traditional authority.

"I want to thank you for the work you have already started. Your swift actions are commendable and show that you are capable of handling this responsibility. The Ga Traditional Council and our chiefs will stand firmly behind you," King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II stated.

He further announced that the Council will soon accompany the Mayor on sanitation enforcement exercises across the city to ensure compliance with the laws.

“As there is a ban on drumming and noise making, I look forward to partnering with you to ensure strict adherence to the directive. Copies of enforcement letters and summons will be shared with your office to enhance collaboration when we begin arrests of offenders,” the King added.

He also hinted at future international collaborations, saying, “We will embark on international trips with you to learn best practices from other cities and implement them here in Accra.”

For his part, Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey expressed appreciation to the King and emphasized the importance of traditional authority in his mission.

"I am here to officially introduce myself to your Royal Majesty. I have inherited a city that is dirty, and I intend to do my very best to improve the situation"

"But I cannot do it alone. I came to my father to seek guidance and blessings,” the Mayor said.

The meeting underscores growing cooperation between city authorities and traditional leaders in efforts to improve sanitation and enforce bylaws in the capital.
