Former Prez. Akufo-Addo hosts NPP presidential aspirants in unity breakfast meeting

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at his private residence in Nima, Accra.

The meeting, aimed at promoting unity and camaraderie ahead of the party’s presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026, also served as a platform for the former President to emphasize the need for a cohesive front as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.

In his remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed his appreciation to the aspirants for honoring his invitation despite their demanding campaign schedules.

He described their presence as a demonstration of shared commitment to the progress and stability of the NPP.

“I have worked closely with each of you and hold you in high regard,” he said, acknowledging the contributions of the aspirants to the party and the nation.

He urged them to focus their campaigns on ideas and policies that will strengthen the party’s appeal to delegates and the Ghanaian public.

Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring unity within the NPP and called for a credible and transparent primary process that would position the party for electoral victory in 2028.

In a show of solidarity, the five aspirants—Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong—pledged to conduct their campaigns in a respectful and competitive manner.

They also committed to supporting the eventual winner to preserve the unity and strength of the party after the primaries.

The meeting was also attended by key party figures including Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff.

The gathering concluded with a renewed sense of togetherness as party leaders and aspirants reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful, fair, and credible internal election process.
