The Forestry Commission has responded to media reports alleging harassment of some members of the Sokoban Wood Village by its officials, assuring the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated.

In a rejoinder issued by the Commission’s Corporate Affairs and Media Relations Unit, the Forestry Commission confirmed that it has invited the leadership of the Sokoban Wood Village, the Domestic Lumber Traders Association (DOLTA), and the Domestic Lumber Millers Association of Ghana (DOLMAG) for a meeting at its headquarters on Friday, July 25, 2025, to deliberate on the concerns raised.

According to the statement, the Forestry Commission had previously engaged with the Sokoban Wood Village on May 12, 2025, during which some of the group’s grievances were addressed.

Following that meeting, a committee was set up to oversee the implementation of key decisions agreed upon.

“The Forestry Commission wishes to assure the public that through effective consultation and dialogue, all issues raised will be resolved amicably in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust,” the statement added.

The Commission emphasized its commitment to working closely with all stakeholders in the timber and lumber trade to ensure a fair and transparent regulatory environment.
