EU Ambassador calls on Ga Mantse, pledges support for youth, cultural development

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, has paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, and the Ga Traditional Council in Accra, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the European Union and the Ga State.


The meeting, held at the Ga Mantse’s Palace, focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as youth empowerment, vocational training, cultural preservation, and sustainable development within the Greater Accra Region.


Ambassador Skinnebach expressed profound respect for the Ga Mantse’s leadership and praised the Ga people’s longstanding contributions to Ghana’s cultural identity, national unity, and democratic progress.


He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities to drive community-based development and promote social inclusion.

“The European Union deeply values Ghana’s cultural heritage and the role of traditional institutions in nation-building. Our partnership with Ghana is rooted in shared values of democracy, rule of law, and sustainable progress,” Ambassador Skinnebach said.


He highlighted the EU’s ongoing investments in youth empowerment and the green economy, noting that these initiatives align closely with the Ga Mantse’s advocacy for youth development.


He also expressed optimism about future collaboration in creating opportunities for young people through digital innovation, technical training, and environmental sustainability projects.


The Ambassador further commended the Ga State for preserving its cultural identity and traditions, particularly the world-renowned Homowo Festival, which he described as “a celebration of resilience and unity.”

He noted that the EU was keen on exploring cultural exchange and preservation programmes that would promote Ghana’s heritage internationally while fostering tourism and creative industry growth.


His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, in his remarks, warmly welcomed Ambassador Skinnebach and expressed appreciation for the EU’s longstanding partnership with Ghana.


He reaffirmed the Ga State’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that enhance social cohesion, job creation, and community well-being.


“The Ga State remains open to partnerships that uplift our people, empower our youth, and preserve our heritage. Development must go hand in hand with cultural identity and social unity,” the Ga Mantse stated.

The visit underscored the EU’s growing engagement with traditional authorities as vital partners in promoting inclusive development and sustainability at the grassroots level.


Both parties expressed commitment to continued dialogue and collaboration, signalling a new phase of cooperation between the European Union and the Ga Traditional Council—one that bridges cultural heritage with modern development priorities.
