ELECTIONS 2020: President Akufo-Addo Acclaimed Flagbearer, Maintains Dr. Bawumia As Vice

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has acclaimed President Akufo-Addo as its Flagbearer ahead of the upcoming 2020 General Elections.

According to the party, it is confident that the sitting President will continue to do more when given another 4yrs in office.

Delivering his acceptance speech at the National Council Meeting in Accra, President Akufo-Addo said "I must confess this is a rare experience for me in my long political career and I am not talking of the acclamation by social distance"

He added that anytime he contests any office, he had to go through a long, often bruising battle adding that this is only his second time he has not been contested.

"We know what we stand for; the rule of law, freedom of speech and of the press, individual freedoms, the determination to liberate the energies of the people for the growth of a property-owning democracy, to build an economy that will create wealth for all our people and not just for the elite few" President Akufo-Addo said.

He explained that in his government's three and a half years rule, it has been his abiding privilege to lead the NPP adding that the party has kept its eyes firmly on its beliefs.

President Akufo-Addo further mentioned that his government's flagship programmes are rooted in the effort to liberate the energies of the people to grow an economy of which al can be part of.

"In spite of the abysmal state in which we found the economy of Ghana in January 2017, we can be proud of what we have been able to achieve in the past three and a half years" he said.

President Akufo-Addo hinted that although Ghanaians are not there yet likewise the country not being where he wants it to be, he is aware that there are lots of work to be done.

He hinted that the December 2020 Presidential Race represents probably the clearest of choices ever for Ghanaians to make.

"It is because 2020 is between the current President and the President who was voted out in the last contest. It is about leadership, integrity, performance of the two men when given the opportunity by the Ghanaian people to lead" he stated.

He thanked the party for believing in him adding that he will not take their trust for granted.

National Chairman, Freddie Blay mentioned that the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) have nothing to offer adding that the NPP is waiting to see who they claim can help John Mahama to win power.

"The NPP has achieved 78% of it promises" Mr. Blay said.

General Secretary, John Boadu hinted that the NPP is poised and ready for the general elections.

President Akufo-Addo however announced at the National Council Meeting (NCM) that he is maintaining Dr. Bawumia as his Vice ahead of the elections.
