The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of Parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following disagreements over the credibility of election results from the area.

This decision was reached after a meeting held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, between the Commission and representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The meeting followed an earlier engagement on June 12, aimed at resolving the impasse.

The NDC has called for a complete rerun in 37 polling stations, arguing that Pink Sheets — official election results forms — from those stations were scanned copies provided by the NPP, raising concerns over their authenticity.

The NPP, however, insists that results from only three outstanding polling stations should be collated and a winner declared.

According to them, NDC agents had already verified and endorsed the scanned results presented.

The controversy stems from violent disruptions at the Ablekuma North Collation Centre during the collation of results for the December 7, 2024, General Election.

Party supporters reportedly stormed the centre and destroyed several Pink Sheets, prompting reliance on scanned copies to complete the collation process.

After extensive deliberations, the EC concluded that the election will be rerun in 19 polling stations where scanned Pink Sheets were used, but lacked verification from the respective Presiding Officers — despite approval from party agents.

The Commission clarified that results from 18 other polling stations, also based on scanned Pink Sheets, would stand, as they have been verified by both party agents and Presiding Officers.

The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, with the EC urging the Ghana Police Service to ensure a secure environment for the process.

“We count on the Ghana Police Service to provide the needed security to ensure a safe environment for the conduct of the election,” said Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC.

The outcome of the rerun is expected to bring closure to the electoral dispute in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
