"EC can never make anyone President" – Jean Mensa clarifies at IPAC Meeting

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has emphasized that the commission does not have the power to make anyone a President.

According to Jean Mensa, EC is solely responsible for declaring the results of the elections as determined by voters.

Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra, Jean Mensa underscored the need for accurate information regarding the role of the EC in the electoral process.

She dismissed any claims suggesting that the commission has the ability to install a president, insisting that the mandate of the EC is to simply declare the outcome of votes cast by the electorate.

"Let it be clear that the EC does not make anyone a president; we only declare the results based on the votes cast by the people"

"It is important that we refrain from peddling misinformation and false news, especially in an election year," she said.

Her comments come in response to claims circulating in the media, which have raised concerns about the integrity of the EC’s role.

This clarification serves as a reminder that it is the decision of the voters that determines the outcome of elections.

The remarks of Jean Mensa were highlighted by Dr. Hassan Ayariga, leader of the All People's Congress (APC), who reiterated the importance of promoting transparency and trust in the electoral process.
