“Disband Black Stars, sack FA” — Sam George

Samuel Nartey George, MP has called for a complete overhaul of Ghana football, including the dissolution of the Black Stars and the removal of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) leadership.

The Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister made the call after Ghana suffered a second successive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars appeared to be in control after Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan gave Ghana a two-goal advantage. However, The Gambia turned the game around to leave Ghana empty-handed.

The result came on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Ghana’s opening Group C fixture, further complicating the team’s efforts to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON.

Reacting on X, Sam George maintained that Ghana should abandon what he described as temporary fixes and undertake a fundamental rebuilding of the national team and football administration.

“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers,” he posted.

Ghana missed out on the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and will now look to revive its qualification hopes when it faces Somalia in a double-header scheduled for October.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
