The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has lauded the government for officially reinstating July 1st as Republic Day and September 21st as Founder's Day, describing the decision as a significant step in honouring Ghana’s rich political heritage.

In a statement released today, the CPP expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, and the 9th Parliament for what they described as a historic and commendable move.

"Today, exactly two weeks after the 76th anniversary of the founding of the CPP at Saltpond by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, we are given yet another reason to celebrate—the reinstatement of July 1 as Republic Day and September 21 as Founder's Day," the statement read.

The party underscored the importance of July 1, 1960, marking Ghana’s transition from a constitutional monarchy to a republic under the leadership of Dr Nkrumah, describing it as a day worthy of national reflection and celebration.

They further highlighted the significance of September 21, the birthdate of Ghana’s first president, which they believe rightly commemorates Dr Nkrumah’s legacy as the nation’s founder.

"The CPP is immensely grateful for the restoration of these dates to the importance they deserve," the statement added, reaffirming the party's long-standing call for proper recognition of Ghana's historical milestones.

The statement concluded with the CPP’s iconic slogan:“Forward Ever! Backwards Never! Long Live Ghana!”
