Covid-19: Ghana's Case Count Rises To 12,929


Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Badu Sarkodie has revealed that Ghana's case count on covid-19 has risen to 12,929.


According to Dr. Sarkodie, although worrying, it is said that four persons infected with Covid-19 are in critical condition.


Addressing the media on Thursday, Dr. Sarkodie said "339 new cases of the coronavirus disease have been confirmed as the country’s total case count nears 13,000."


He added that 14 individuals are critically ill.


"Of these, 4,468 have recovered while 66 have died from complication from the Covid-19.

This leaves the active cases at 8,395; these cases are being managed from treatment centres, isolation sites and from home" the Director said.


Explaining the breakdown of regional distribution of new cases of covid-19, he said "The country has recorded 339 new cases from nine of the 16 regions"


He added that Greater Accra has 154 cases recorded in 17 Districts whiles Western Region follows with 58 cases from two Districts.

The Director further revealed that the Ashanti Region has recorded 41 cases in five Districts adding that Central Region has 38 cases in a single District.

He said "Eastern Region has 15 cases in two Districts, Volta Region has 13 cases from four Districts, Bono East Region has also recorded nine cases in three Districts nooot forgetting Northern Region with nine cases but from only one district"


The Director also hinted that Savannah has two cases coming from one district.

Meanwhile, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stressed on the need for the citizenry to adhere to the wearing of nose mask.


He said "It is our collective duty to wear the mask. The virus does not discriminate on social, religious or political affiliations"


He pleaded to event organisers to ensure the social distancing and wearing of nose mask directive are adhered to
