The driving force behind the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, known by many as Cheddar has reiterated his ambitious plan to dredge the sea to the landlocked city of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
This audacious project, aimed at stimulating industrialization, has sparked widespread debate and criticism, but Cheddar remains undeterred.
Speaking on an Accra-based television station, the Independent Presidential Candidate laid out his vision, underscoring the transformative potential of water bodies.
He emphasized that connecting Kumasi to the sea is not only feasible but essential for the nation's development if he is elected.
"Bringing the sea to Kumasi is a revolutionary idea," Cheddar asserted.
"Look at the world's most developed cities—London, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Dubai—they all thrive around water. Water is life; it supports irrigation, transportation, and connects regions, fostering development."
Cheddar's plan involves dredging key rivers such as the Pra, which flows from Cape Coast to Kumasi, and the Tano, connecting Takoradi to Elubo. He drew parallels with successful waterway projects globally, highlighting examples from England's canal systems to Ivory Coast's innovative water management.
"These projects are possible," he insisted. "Water bodies around the world are used for transportation and irrigation, creating vital links between communities and driving economic growth. Ghana has overlooked this potential for too long."
Despite facing skepticism and backlash, Cheddar defended his vision passionately. "Yes, I said I would dredge the sea to Kumasi," he confirmed.
"People are entitled to their opinions, but my concern is whether those critics have the insight to propose better solutions. We need to think big and bold to transform this nation."
Cheddar’s proposal is part of a broader campaign to harness Ghana's natural resources for sustainable development.
He believes that innovative projects like this can break the mold of traditional thinking and propel Ghana into a new era of prosperity.
As the debate continues, Cheddar’s unwavering commitment to his grand vision showcases a leader unafraid to challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of what’s possible for the future of Ghana.
