The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced the prosecution of Mr. Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adu-Boahene, over what he described as a sophisticated scheme involving the misuse of public funds and money laundering through multiple companies linked to the couple.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, Dr. Ayine revealed that the couple used a company, which they jointly own, as a conduit to finance and channel funds to other affiliated entities including Vetex Processes Limited, Vetex Solutions, and the widely known BNP Communications Bureau Limited. BNP, he noted, was previously implicated in the controversial diversion of GHS 49.1 million in guarantees from national security accounts.
"Based on documentary evidence, we have charged Mr. Kwabena Adu-Boahene with three counts of stealing, one count of defrauding by false pretenses, one count of willfully causing financial loss to the state, one count of using public office for profit, and multiple counts of money laundering," the Attorney-General stated.
He added that Mrs. Angela Adu-Boahene has also been charged with conspiracy to steal, aiding in the use of public office for private gain, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and substantive counts of money laundering.
The company, Advantage Solutions, which served as a central channel for the alleged financial misconduct, has also been named in the case, with two counts of conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering filed against it.
Dr. Ayine also responded to public criticisms that followed his earlier press conference held from March 23 to 25, where some citizens accused him of unfairly targeting the couple.
“I am keenly aware of the criticisms levelled against me. But I want to reassure Ghanaians that our actions are firmly grounded in evidence and guided by the rule of law,” he stressed.
The Attorney-General assured the public that his office remains committed to pursuing justice without fear or favour, adding that the rule of law will continue to guide all prosecutorial decisions.
