Asante Kotoko Close To Appointing Spanish Coach, Kiko Lopez As New Head Coach

According to reports reaching Modernghana Sports, Asante Kotoko is close to appointing Spanish tactician Kiko Lopez as the team’s new head coach.

The Kumasi-based club currently has coach Abdul Gazale registered as their head coach but Coach Johnson Smith always handles affairs from the touchline during matchday.

Although impressed with the work of the technical bench since the departure of Coach Maxwell Konadu, the management of Asante Kotoko believe it is time to bring in a new technical head.

Reports picked up now indicate that talks are far advanced to secure the services of former Real Madrid youth Coach Kiko Lopez.

The gaffer, 49, in the past has worked with Tunisian side Olympique de Baja and also at a point served as a technical director for CS Sfaxien.

With his experience on the African terrain, Asante Kotoko wants to get him on board to help the club achieve its aim of winning trophies.

Meanwhile, Coach Kiko Lopez in an interview with Maverick Sports last week expressed his readiness to work in Ghana.

“I like Ghana and I am very interested to work in Ghana with a club in the first division,” the Spanish coach told Maverick Sports.

It is unclear what will happen to coach Abdul Gazale and Johnson Smith when the new coach is appointed.
