Accra Academy management has taken swift action in response to a disturbing video circulating on social media, which appears to show a student assaulting a colleague with a machete.

The school has confirmed that the student responsible has been handed over to the police for further interrogation.

In a statement issued by the school's management, it was clarified that the incident occurred on January 17, 2024, but was only brought to the school's attention after the video surfaced online.

The victims did not initially report the matter to school authorities.

Management stated that all students involved in the incident have been identified, and their parents have been contacted. Some parents have responded and provided statements to assist with investigations.

The students involved in the act, all of whom are day students, have been asked to stay away from school pending further investigations by the disciplinary committee. The identified perpetrators include:

  • Shadad Aliu a.k.a. Kester (1VA 1)

  • Haleem Jibril a.k.a. Chopper (3Bus 5)

  • Ahmed Dauda a.k.a. Foreigner (3GA 5)

  • Richard Ninsin a.k.a. Poisonous (3GA 5)

The victims of the incident have been named as:

  • Samuel Ussher (1Sc 10)

  • Kingsford Quayson (1Sc 10)

  • Stephen Oteng (1Sc 10)

  • Dominic Awuku Adjei (1GA 2)

Preliminary investigations indicate that the machete used in the assault was brought from home and was not taken from the school premises.

The school's disciplinary committee has launched an internal investigation into the matter, and management has assured all stakeholders that they will be duly informed of the outcome.

This incident has sparked widespread concern among parents and the general public, with many calling for stricter measures to curb violence among students.
