43 Ghanaian Health Workers depart for Jamaica under migration policy

Forty-three Ghanaian health workers have departed Accra for Jamaica under the government’s health worker migration policy, as part of efforts to provide international exposure and opportunities for professional development.

The health workers left Ghana on Saturday and are expected to gain practical experience, share knowledge and learn from the Jamaican health system during their stay.

Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Desmond Boateng, encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by exchanging experiences with their Jamaican counterparts.

“When you get there, you’re going to share the experiences. You can swap. You are also going to learn,” he said.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman, also noted that the programme forms part of broader international engagement involving health workers, including opportunities involving the United States.

Meanwhile, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Rashid Pelpuo, urged the departing health workers to uphold Ghana’s image and values while abroad.

“It’s important for you as a group that you’re leaving the country Ghana, carry with this, this image, this culture, and this sense of commitment,” he said.

The departure forms part of Ghana’s efforts to manage health worker migration while creating structured opportunities for international training, knowledge exchange and professional development.
