ThinkNews Online can confirm that 18 people have lost their lives in a ghastly accident that occurred at Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
According to sources, although 18 lives were lost, some 45 others are also battling for survival as they are in critical condition.
Although the cause of the ghastly accident is unknown, police in the region say the accident occurred at Sarekyekura near Fufulso on the Buipe-Tamale Highway
The dead people include 14 men, 3 women, and a young girl.
The 45 other passengers who are battling for their lives have sustained various degrees of injuries.
Sources say the Buipe Polyclinic and Holistic Medicare Hospital are currently housing the injured while the remains of the dead have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
Speaking to the media, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Savannah Regional Police, Adjekum Owusu, confirmed that the unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday dawn, February 3, 2021.
He said "Drivers of the Yutong buses with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 with about 45 persons onboard each are yet to be identified.
The buses were traveling from Kumasi to Zebila and from Garu to Kumasi.
