16 Persons Die After 2 VIP Buses Crashed On Accra-Kumasi Highway (Video + Pictures)


At least sixteen (16) persons have met their untimely death after two VIP buses crashed at Akim Asafo, a community on the Accra-Kumasi highway on Friday dawn.


According to eye-witnesses. the deceased persons comprise 3 women and 13 men.


It is emerging that as at 1:30 am on Friday dawn, the driver of one of the KIA buses overtook a vehicle as it was heading towards Accra.




Further information gathered indicates that the driver whose bus has registration number GT 5629-18 lost control after he realized that another bus was moving towards him.


The Police said "Upon reaching a section of the road at Akim Asafo Junction, he made an unsafe overtaking without observing traffic from the opposite direction. In the process, he crashed head-on with another KIA Granbird bus with registration number GE 5510-15, the driver also now deceased which was coming from Kumasi direction."


ThinkNews Online has also gathered that although 16 died on the spot, others sustained various degrees of injuries and have been rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital and Akim Asafo Health Center for medical assistance.


The remains of the 16 have been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital mortuary and are calling on relatives to come and identify the bodies.
